So - My turn.
Now, first off - if you check my profile, you'll find I'm over three years old. So in what manner am I a n00b..? Very nearly three years off-line. Life happens.
So, one of my alts runs with the fleet that took out the Talos - I was (am) PvP-clueless, but Stellar was extremely patient, and I was getting the general idea fairly quick, until we hit a meeting engagement at a gate. We'd been detected, and shadowed, but the trailing scout counter-detected our follower, and Stellar called us to hold on the gate, instead of busting through. Good call.
On the other side, there was a qucik-n-dirty ambush set up. They weren't expecting Stellar to flush us all through the gate at once. Immediate pandemonium! Target-rich environment, and our ambushers had a hard time picking the right ones. I got picked out immediately, and soaked up two full volleys of heavy artillery that would have been far more profitably aimed at one of our heavies. Pop! I find myself in the midst of my first fleet battle in a pod, surrounded by fireworks.
About this time, or very nearly, a fleet of 'Canes came streaming through the gate behind us, slamming that door on us - hard. Fleet chat remains surprisingly disciplined, and I get a decent snapshot of what's happening - Talos down, but our fleet masively outgunned and burning fast. I pop my pod back through the gate, looking to get away before enough frigates burn that targetting pods becomes a reasonable act - And fnd an anti-warp field waiting me.
Nowhere to go, I pop back through the gate right into the middle of the fight. The first thing I see is a red pod, and I know things aren't entirely one-sided. Communications discipline is largely holding, and an escape route is broadcast to the fleet - those of us still in space. Back I go through the 'cane gate, and manage to avoid getting bubbled or scrammed; I lit out for safety like a scalded cat.
Along the way, I spot two other Fleet pods, making the same dash. All three of us break into Empire space at the same time, and begin finding our way back home. Stellar is trying to regroup the fleet for a re-engagement, but things (and people) are too scattered. Along the way home, a Thrasher spots our pods fleeing homeward, and tries to nail us in Empire space - trying to lock us at gates, following us through several systems, slowly losing ground - finally giving up and returning to whatever he was up to before he scented blood.
At the end of the day, we lost the numbers game, but came damn near to winning the ISK game. A good run, and a pretty respectable result, considering the numbers of rookies and raw n00bs in the fleet.
Thanks, Stellar! |
